IMD Brazil: Who we are

Welcome! We are the University of New Mexico's International Medical Delegation Brazil. So what does that mean?

In May of 2013, we will travel to Navegantes and Sao Paolo, Brazil to help provide medical aide and education to these communities.

Our Mission... The purpose of our organization is to provide medical aide to underdeveloped nations, expose undergraduate pre-health or socially minded student to international healthcare and poverty situations, to educate our community of international issues, and promote action to solve these problems.

We are working together with the nongovernmental organization Lions Club to develop further outreach programs, which will be implemented during our time in Brazil. A large part of our efforts are going to focus on providing free medical consultations and basic medicine to poverty stricken communities. Throughout our travels we will perform medical brigades, visit and donate supplies to orphanages, hospitals and a cancer center as well as visit centers for disabilities. Each day will be a new project and experience and each person will get the chance to participate.

Our group is made up of 24 students, both undergrad and graduate, from the University of New Mexico. While the majority of our members are studying different forms of medicine, this year students from different majors have been invited to join as well.

Our group!
Our goal is to raise $2,500 each to fund our trips. Interested in donating? Not only are you helping out Brazilians suffering from extreme poverty, your donation is tax deductible! Send us an email at brazilimd@gmail.com or get in touch with one of our members and we'll let you know how.
